OMEGA-3:

Scientists have shown in several studies that reduced levels of Omega-3 fatty acid in a diet lead to an increased risk of Dementia and Alzheimers Disease in later life. ( See link here for National Library of Medicine Articles). DHA, an Omega-3 fatty acid, reduces production of the amyloid β protein that is believed to cause AD.

DHA ( Docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid that is a significant structural component of the human brain, cerebral cortex, skin, and retina. It can be obtained directly  fish oil, or algae oil or can be synthesised from alpha-linolenic acid. Reduced levels of DHA are associated with Dementia.
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) is one of several omega-3 fatty acids. Although not specifically associated with Dementia , it is also found in fish oil supplements, along with DHA. EPA is good for Heart function.

Omega 3 fatty acids are also know to work really well in combination, with both Vitamin D and B complex Vitamins. In fact some studies would suggest that without sufficient Omega 3 , Vitamin D and B complex Vitamins cannot fulfil their full potential.

From the work cited the recommendation is to take Omega 3 supplements alongside both Vitamin D and B complex Vitamins.
